On 06 January 2023, SRSG and Head of MINURSO, Alexander Ivanko, presided over a ceremony recognizing the Bangladesh Medial Unit’s service with MINURSO. The event took place at the BMU Clinic in the presence of the Mission Leadership. In his remarks, SRSG noted the outstanding and professional service provided by BMU especially during COVID-19 pandemic and awarded a “Certificate of Commendation” to the ‘BMU– 11’ in recognition of their excellent service and commitment to duty. The BMU provides clinical and preventative services for MINURSO personnel through a professional workforce of 20 members serving in MINURSO HQ, and—critically--in the various Team Sites east and west of the berm. BMU has also played a key role in CASEVACs, MEDIVACs and in the fight against COVID-19.
