United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Kenneth Gluck of the United States of America as his Deputy Special Representative and Deputy Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).Mr. Gluck succeeds Diane Corner of the United Kingdom, who completed her assignment end June 2017. The Secretary-General is grateful to Ms. Corner for her dedicated service and her steadfast political engagement during the start-up of the peacekeeping operation.Mr. Gluck brings to the position several years of mediation and peacebuilding experience, including as Chief of Staff in the African Union-United Nations Joint Mediation Support Team (2008-2011), Principal Officer at the Office of the Special Adviser on Yemen (2013), Director and Deputy Head at the UN Peacebuilding Support Office (2013-2015) and most recently as Director and Deputy to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen (since 2015). Prior to joining the United Nations, Mr. Gluck worked with several international non-governmental organizations providing humanitarian assistance in complex emergencies. Most notably, he served as Director of Operations for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) from 2001 to 2006 and as MSF’s Head of Mission in the Russian Federation and Northern Caucasus (1999-2001), Somalia (2006) and Sudan (2007-2008).Mr. Gluck holds a Bachelor degree in Sociology from Harvard University.Born in 1962, he is married.
