UNIFIL’s military and civilian peacekeepers joined various UN agencies in Lebanon in an NGO fair in Beirut earlier this week to speak with Lebanese youth about the work of UN Peacekeeping in south Lebanon in furthering peace.
The 23-24 April NGO Fair was organized, under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs, Pierre Bou Assi, in the campuses of the American University of Beirut (AUB) and Université Saint Joseph (USJ). The UN’s participation in the Fair was to promote a better understanding, among a wide spectrum of the Lebanese population, of the activities carried out by a large number of UN entities in Lebanon. In her tweet after the opening ceremony on 23 April, the Acting UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Pernille Dahler Kardel, said she was pleased to have participated in the civic engagement forum that offered space for young people to engage with local and international NGOs and on ways they can make a difference in Lebanon. “A highlight of my presence in Lebanon has been to meet the outstanding young men and women of this country,” she tweeted.
